Milton Township is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all visitors, including those with disabilities. We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as required by the U.S. Department of Justice’s final rule for state and local government websites.
Our Efforts
We have taken the following steps to ensure accessibility:
- All pages are tested against WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards using automated accessibility scanning tools
- Color contrast ratios meet or exceed the required 4.5:1 minimum for normal text
- All images include descriptive alternative text for screen readers
- Page headings follow a logical hierarchy for easy navigation
- All links use descriptive text that conveys their destination or purpose
- Keyboard navigation is supported throughout the site
- A skip-to-content link is available on every page
- PDF documents are being remediated with proper metadata, language attributes, and structural tagging
Known Limitations
While we work toward full compliance, the following limitations currently exist:
- Historical PDF documents: Some older PDF documents (primarily meeting minutes and archived records prior to 2024) may not be fully tagged for screen reader accessibility. We are actively remediating these documents and will provide accessible versions upon request.
- Third-party content: Some features provided by third-party services (such as Google reCAPTCHA on our Hall Rental form) may not fully meet accessibility standards. We are evaluating accessible alternatives.

Compliance Timeline
The U.S. Department of Justice finalized a rule in April 2024 requiring state and local government websites to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. As a township with a population under 50,000, Milton Township’s compliance deadline is April 26, 2027. We are actively working to meet this standard ahead of the deadline.
